
Nora Räthzel
Is Professor of Sociology at Umeå University. She completed her doctorate at the University of Kassel and her habilitation at Umeå University. Here she was Senior Researcher from 1998 to 2002, Lecturer from 2002 to 2004, then Professor until 2020 and Senior Professor since 2021. She is co-founder of the Hamburg Institute for Migration and Racism Research, of which she was director from 1989 to 1998. Her work and research focuses include gender relations, racism, class, work and globalization.
Since the 1980s, she has been associated with the journal Das Argument as an author and editor. She was involved in the translation and publication of Stuart Hall’s collected writings in German, which appeared under her direction with the titles “Ideologie Kultur Rassismus “(1989) and “Cultural studies. Ein politisches Theorieprojekt” (2000), volumes one and three of the series were published by Argument-Verlag.
