Celebrating BG’s 25th anniversary, the “Kin City” festival will take place on October 17-19 at the ZK/U – Center for Art and Urbanistics. At the heart of the three-day event are five workshops: “Caring Urban Ecologies,” “Contesting ‘Green’ Coloniality,” “Undoing Urban Borders,” “Hacking Liquid Tree City,” and “War-Torn Urban Ecologies.” Here, we will bring together scholars, activists, and cultural workers to explore and construct the (potential) intersection of environmental and urban struggles from multiple perspectives.
The call for registrations targets researchers, activists, artists, journalists, and producers of subjugated knowledge at large. It is possible to register for one of the five tracks by October 1.
Caring Urban Ecologies

Contesting ‘Green’ Coloniality

Undoing Urban Borders
The climate crisis is a cause/driver of displacement and flight, and the European metropolis is a place of refuge and a place of environmental injustice. What does it mean to undo the racial bordering of cities?

Hacking Liquid Tree City
How might highlighting the (repressed) connections between city and countryside (or city and nature) in the Balkans disrupt the European Green New Deal on both discursive and socio-political levels?
Guests: Zoë Aiano, Nina Djukanović, Esther*, Jelena Gugic, Iskra Krstić, Svjetlana Nedimović, Zoran Pantelić, Sofija Stefanović, Christin Stühlen, Norma Tiedemann. Facilitation: Holger Kral, Mihajlo Vujasin.

War-Torn Urban Ecologies
Capitalism is waging a war on the city by direct or indirect means: through military technology, aggressive urban development, or ‘natural’ disasters. What does it mean to challenge the destruction of urban ecologies?
Guests: Nidzara Ahmetasević, Nishat Awan, Stephen Bouquin, Özgün Eylül İşcen, Gorana Mlinarević, Oleg Pachenkov, Tatjana Söding, Lilia Voronkova, Rose Wanjiku. Facilitation: Nina Pohler, Sotiris Sideris.
