Raj Patel
Author, filmmaker, and academic, he is a research professor at the Lyndon B. Johnson School of Public Affairs, University of Texas, Austin. With degrees from Oxford, LSE, and Cornell, he has worked for the World Bank and WTO, while also protesting them globally. A member of the International Panel of Experts on Sustainable Food Systems, he has testified on the global food crisis to US, UK, and EU governments and was honored with a James Beard Foundation Leadership Award in 2016.
He writes for The Guardian and has contributed to outlets like the Financial Times, New York Times, Scientific American, and more. His books include “Stuffed and Starved”, the bestseller “The Value of Nothing, A History of the World in Seven Cheap Things” (with Jason W. Moore), and Inflamed (with Rupa Marya). His film “The Ants & The Grasshopper”, co-directed with Zak Piper, was filmed over a decade. He also co-hosted the podcast “The Secret Ingredient” on food politics.
