Olena Pavlova
Postdoctoral Research Fellow at the Department of History, Chair for the History of Eastern Europe, Humboldt University of Berlin since October 2022. Previously, she was Professor of Ethics, Aesthetics, and Cultural Studies at Taras Shevchenko National University of Kyiv (2011–2022) and Head of the Department of Culture Studies at the National University of Life and Environmental Sciences in Kyiv (2003–2011). She holds a PhD in Philosophy from Taras Shevchenko National University of Kyiv (2003), where she also completed her BA and MA studies.
Her current project, “Cultural History Approaches to War Perception in Ukraine”, examines how citizens of Mariupol used a Viber channel during and after the siege of the city. She investigates this media community through models of participatory democracy, grassroots forms of civic engagement, and the interplay between state censorship and community self-regulation in wartime Ukraine.
